On November 27th, the China National Textile and Apparel Council held a seminar on the construction and development of disciplines in the textile industry in 2025, preparing to establish a working group for the construction and development of disciplines in the textile industry (hereinafter referred to as the "Working Group") to address the problems in discipline construction such as insufficient matching between talent cultivation and industrial demands and the need to enhance the efficiency of discipline resource integration.

In recent years, China's textile industry has achieved remarkable results in high-end, intelligent, green and integrated development. However, the textile discipline, which serves as the core support of the industry, still faces challenges: the connection between the discipline direction and the industry's cutting-edge is not tight, and the update of the curriculum system in some universities lags behind technological changes. The mechanism for integrating industry and education is not sound, and there is a disconnection between university research and the demands of enterprises. Disciplinary resources are scattered and the construction of collaborative innovation platforms is insufficient. The scale and quality of high-end talent cultivation are difficult to meet the demands of industrial upgrading.
Zhang Chuanxiong introduced that in order to solve the structural matching problem between talent cultivation and industrial demand in the textile industry, the China National Textile and Apparel Council has taken the lead in preparing to establish a special working group. This working group is jointly composed of relevant responsible persons from industry-related associations and societies, key textile colleges and universities, and leading enterprises. The working group will focus on carrying out the following aspects of work to promote the coordinated development of the textile discipline and industry. First, carry out strategic research on the development of the textile discipline, investigate the development trends and industrial demands of the discipline at home and abroad, and formulate medium and long-term development plans for the textile discipline. Second, build a collaborative platform among universities, enterprises and industry associations to promote the organic connection between talent cultivation, scientific research innovation and industrial application. Third, focus on the connotative construction of the textile discipline, promote the effective connection between the discipline, teaching, research and the demands of industrial development, and enhance the core competitiveness of the discipline. Fourth, collect, sort out and release relevant information on the construction of the textile discipline and the development of the industry, release discipline development reports, teaching case collections and other materials, and provide decision-making references for the industry and universities.
At the meeting, Wang Xianfeng, the vice dean of the School of Textile Engineering at Donghua University, proposed in his report titled "Thoughts on the Development and Planning of the Textile Discipline during the 15th Five-Year Plan Period" that the development of the textile discipline should be systematically and comprehensively planned, and universities should promote it in a coordinated manner. He mentioned that the future goal of discipline construction is to serve the core interests of the country and enhance the strategic adaptability of textile science to the national strategy. Second, lead the transformation and upgrading of the textile industry, deeply integrate scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, and accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Third, improve the textile education system, cultivate top-notch innovative talents and industry leading talents, and build an education center with global influence. Fourth, support international win-win cooperation, deepen international cooperation and talent exchange, and empower the high-quality development of the textile industry.
Li Lingshen proposed that he hopes the working group will take into account the overall development of the industry, scientifically plan the strategic development direction of the textile discipline, closely adhere to the requirements of cultivating new quality productive forces to strengthen discipline construction, accelerate the construction of a collaborative development ecosystem with deep integration of industry and education, and unite the efforts of all parties to jointly promote the high-quality development of China's textile discipline.
Sun Ruizhe said that the national strategy describes future industries in six aspects: future manufacturing, future information, future energy, future space, future health, and future materials. The textile industry is closely linked to it. Sun Ruizhe emphasized that the textile industry is a pillar industry of the national economy, a livelihood industry for common prosperity, an advantageous industry that integrates domestic and international resources, and a future industry that inherits and innovates. It is an important entry point or application field for future industries. For this reason, he proposed that discipline construction should serve the "four Orientations", strengthen the construction of higher education at its own level, and enhance the construction of the knowledge system. The first is to break through the cognitive limitations of the textile industry at the social and capital levels and enhance the industrial status. Second, respect scientific principles and the disciplinary system. The third is to enhance cross-border integration. Fourth, we should strengthen innovation-driven development and ensure that the construction of the textile discipline is in line with China's status as a textile power.
At the meeting, leaders from several textile-related universities engaged in a discussion and exchange on their respective work directions in discipline construction, and offered suggestions and shared experiences for the next steps of the working group's work.
